Resident Evil 2 review

Following the success of resident evil capcom began work on the sequel on shortly after releasing the first resident evil. scheduled for a March 1997 release and about 85% complete when the decided to scrap it and start over from the begining because the developers felt it was too similar to the first resident evil. it wasn't until January 21, 1998 and 8 days later for Japan on the 29 that it was released for the sony playstation. it ended up selling 46.9 million copies for the playstation alone.

The game takes place two years after the first resident evil taking place in the city of Raccoon city several months after the mansion incident ( see the post below this to find out more information.) instead of using the same characters from the first resident evil capcom decided to start out with a fresh set of characters.

The two new characters are leon S. kennedy and Claire Redfield both are new to Raccoon city but unfortiantly for them they wont get a long time to get to know the town. Leon S. Kennedy is a rooky police officer for the RPD (Raccoon Police Department) its his first day on the job while Claire Redfield his looking for her brother Chris Redfield Unfortanly for them they arrived at the city on the wrong day.
They both encounter there first zombie shortly after entering the city. Claire encounter her first zombie in a restraunt while leon meets his in the streets. shortly after there close encounters they run into each other and decide to team up. upon finding a abandon police car both of them get into it and head to the police station.
The gameplay is essentially the same. the characters are both are moved using the D-pad. picking up and using items with the X button
Over all the game is the same has the first one when it comes to the controls, story wise its a great new experience and addition to the story.

Resident Evil review

The year was 1996 when the International company known has Capcom unleashed a game across the U.S for the Sony Playstation on march 22 called Resident evil in japan it is called biohazard. It didn't take long for the game to become a best seller selling more than 2,750,000 over all. now that you know a little bit of information lets begin the review

The story follows a elite group of cops know has S.T.A.R.S. ( special tactics and rescue service ) the s.t.a.r.s branch has two teams

  • Alpha team Albert Wesker - Mission Leader
    Chris Redfield - Pointman, Marksman
Barry Burton - Backup Man, Weapons Specialist
Joseph Frost - Omni Man, Vehicle Specialist
Jill Valentine - Rear Security, B&A Specialist
    Brad Vickers- Rear Security, Pilot

  • Bravo Team
    Enrico Marini- Mission Leader
Kenneth Sullivan - Pointman, Field Scout
Richard Aiken - Backup Man, Communications
Forest Speyer - Omni Man, Vehicle Specialist
Edward Dewey - Rear Security, Pilot
Rebecca Chambers - Rear Security, Medic
Kevin Dooley - Co-Pilot who substituted pilot for Bravo Team during the Arklay incident.

Bravo team was sent in first and ended up MIA when there helicopter had to make a crash landing in the forest of raccoon city. Following there disappearance Alpha team was sent in to look for them. They found the crashed helicopter with the mutilated body of Kevin Dooly and promptly continue there search there missing comrades. Joseph frost while searching discovered a hand still holding a gun upon him screaming in horror was attached by a group of Cerberus (zombie dogs) who tore him apart. upon hearing his screams the rest of the team was attacked by the rest of the pack and had to retreat while doing that the remaining members of Alpha team found a mansion and ran inside where they would encounter true horror.

when you start the game you get to choose from two characters Chris Redfield or Jill valentine. Chris is stronger and faster than Jill but at the cost of loosing two inventory slots he has a support character passively helps him while Jill is weaker and slower but has two more inventory slots. he supportive character is more offensive and sometimes provide her with additional ammo.

The game play involve you running around the mansion solving puzzles while having to fight of monsters and zombies for some people this might bore some people but for others its great. unlike other game you cant just go willy nilly and shoot every monster you see or else you'll end up getting left with only using a knife ( not the best weapon to use ) and screwed over. there are storage bins located around the mansion that where you can store the items that you collected. it doesn't matter which bin you put a item it will appear in all the other ones. theres a unique save system that requires you to have a ink ribbon on hand if you want to save your game but the catch is that there is a limited amount of ribbins you can get over the course of the game limiting the amount of saves you can do which is pretty much bad news for people who save every second. the camera system is fixed meaning that you wont be able to look around a corner until you actually go around it. the health system has you can see
the game uses a unique health system that tells how much heath you have by using the following a heart moniter with the words Fine, caution, danger and poison. the game unlike the newer versions didn't have a pysical warning system to tell you how badly your character was injured.

The list of weapons includes the beretta handgun, colt python, remington shotgun, flame thrower, and rocket launcher. you'll probibally be using the beretta a lot more than other the other guns because the ammo is more plentiful and it's pretty good against the other enemies. the colt python you find latter in the game and it is the second most powerfull gun in the game it is capable of dealing with the tougher bosses with a few bullets. as you can see the list isn't very long but that doesn't really matter.

The enemies range from the standard zombies has you can see from the picturer below. most zombies are slow and easy to avoid others are tougher to avoid and have to be delt with while some zombies have no use of the lower half of there body and have to crawl on the ground. The crawlers are the easiest to deal with only requiring a knife to dispatch.
Tcreature below the zombie is called a hunter. They are very dangerouse and take alot of bullets to kill and if you are in the caution health stage then you risk getting decapitated by the hunter which makes it a instant kill.

The following video is from resident evil 3 credits go to user Matayoshi1986 and youtube

over all this game is a classic that I believe everyone should play it atleast once in there life.

Metal Gear solid portable ops review

Metal gears has been around since 1987 when the first Metal gear was created and published for the MSX2 home computer since then it has appeared on the ps1, ps2, ps3, psp and xbox. Metal gear portable ops for psp its in my experience one of the best psp games you can get.

The controls are simple yet solid. you sue the analog to move your character and the D pad to look around while the two bumpers on the top are used to get your gun in firing position and aim. The X button is used to crouch and go prone, O is used to selected you weapons and equip them, the square button is used to grab, drag, , interrogate and know out people ( by tapping the square button rapidly until they pass out) finally but not least the triangle button is used stalk/ get behind walls and perform actions.

The game play is similar to all the other metal gear games which if your new to the Metal gear series involves sneaking around avoiding enemy soldiers while completing objective such has capturing enemy officers or blowing up trucks to create a diversion so you can get across a bridge. one of the new feature for this installment is the ability to capture enemy soldiers and have them join your team. each person you capture has there own traits such has being good with rifles along with being able to send items they pick up back to the truck. The traits give the game a lot of replay value by making you consider which soldiers have the traits best suited for the mission. when doing a mission if one of your squad members die the are permently dead the only exeptions to this are the characters that play a important part in the story. if they loose all of there health then they are out of the mission and need some time to heal up. You have up to four squads each being able to hold up to 4 people the advantage to having 4 squads is the ability to have one thats best suited for each type of situation

The online portion of the game is great you use the squads that you have formed in the single player portion of the game to play against other peoples squads there ares several online modes a real conflict to where if one of your squad members die then they are permently dead while in vr if a squad member dies they are just KO and unusable until the round is over. suprisingly the games I've played have been lag free making it a blast to play online against other people.

Over all this is a great game to have for the psp whether or not are a fan of the Metal Gear series
